NK-4-GBM

About this trial

Metabolically optimised NK cell therapies for glioblastoma (NK-4-GBM) is a multi-centre translational research study. This study is for all patients with suspected newly diagnosed high grade glioma with planned surgical intervention. This study aims to understand why a type of immune cell called a natural killer (NK) cell, which normally helps the body fight cancer, does not work properly in people with glioblastoma (GBM). By examining blood and tumour samples, the researchers expect to identify changes in how these cells use energy and function, and to pinpoint substances within the tumour environment that weaken or switch off NK cells. The study is expected to map the chemical and protein signals present around the tumour that suppress the immune response and to use this information to develop and test new approaches that help NK cells work more effectively against GBM in the future.
This novel research programme will for the first time reveal the metabolic heterogeneity within GBM and the impact upon NK cell metabolism and cytotoxicity. This knowledge has the potential to uncover new metabolism targeted strategies for effective NK cell immunotherapies. This collaborative research on the collected tumour sample will be carried out across 5 different institutions.

Can I join this study / trial?

The first step we recommend is to talk to your doctor or the cancer trials team at your hospital. You can find contact details for cancer trials research units in Ireland here.

It’s also a good idea to print this page and bring it with you to your appointment. It can help guide the conversation and remind you of what to ask. You may also want to talk to your family or friends about your options, as they can offer support as you make decisions.
