There are not enough cancer trials open in Ireland. Cancer Trials Ireland is working to change this by developing new research, bringing international trials to Ireland and creating more opportunities for patients to participate in cancer trials.

Some organisations simply want to make a donation and leave us to put the funding to work. Others want to support a specific area, receive updates or develop a more active partnership.
All of these approaches are welcome.
There is no expectation that donors will attend events, meet research teams, involve employees or communicate publicly about their support. Where requested, we can provide updates, reporting, employee engagement or partnership communications.
What philanthropic support can make possible
Cancer Trials Ireland has experience working with foundations, families and donors to turn philanthropic support into meaningful action for patients in Ireland.
The Pat Smullen Pancreatic Cancer Fund was established following a €2.6 million donation dedicated to pancreatic cancer research. At the time, there were no pancreatic cancer trials open in Ireland. The Fund has since supported new trials, research infrastructure and the development of specialist expertise in pancreatic cancer.
Our partnership with the Beatrice Pembroke Walsh Foundation is supporting specialist sarcoma outreach clinics in the Midlands, alongside a national sarcoma registry, biobank and new research into leiomyosarcoma. This partnership combines immediate benefits for patients with investment in the research needed to support future cancer trials.
These examples show how philanthropic funding can support a specific cancer type, improve access to specialist services, strengthen research infrastructure and create new trial opportunities for patients in Ireland.
