Cancer Trials Ireland has published its Pre-Budget Submission for Budget 2027, seeking targeted Government investment to improve patient access to cancer trials and strengthen Ireland’s clinical trials environment.
The submission makes three key asks:
- A €250,000 seed fund to support Cancer Trials Ireland and trial sites nationally to begin implementing the recommendations of the National Clinical Trials Oversight Group, through collaboration with the Clinical Trials Advisory Council.
- Funding for a Site Set-Up Specialist to help sites improve trial start-up times, accelerate study activation and support earlier patient recruitment.
- A national Optimisation Trials Fund to investigate whether existing cancer treatments can safely be given at a lower dose, less often or for a shorter period. These trials could reduce the treatment burden for patients while delivering significant savings to the State.
Cancer Trials Ireland has been encouraged by the response to the submission and welcomes opportunities to discuss what greater investment in cancer trials could deliver for patients and for Ireland.
