Centralised Feasibilities

Purpose of the central feasibility service

Cancer Trials Ireland provides a national, central point of contact for feasibility assessments for cancer clinical trials in Ireland. The aim is to coordinate feasibility activity across Disease Specific Subgroups (DSSGs) and sites so that Ireland presents clear, consistent information to industry sponsors and collaborative research groups.

Guidance for DSSG Chairs, Co-Chairs and site investigators

To support a coordinated national approach, when industry or collaborative research groups approach you or your site directly about a feasibility, please:
• Refer them to Cancer Trials Ireland’s feasibility service as the national point of contact
• Share the central contact details: feasibilities@cancertrials.ie
• Where appropriate, copy feasibilities@cancertrials.ie on your response

This helps to:
• Capture feasibility activity in a central tracker
• Coordinate with DSSG Operations Leads and site teams
• Avoid multiple, uncoordinated feasibility responses from individual sites

  • Follow-up on the outcome of the feasibility
    • Improve Ireland’s chances of being selected for cancer trials while maintaining appropriate site and geographic coverage

How the central feasibility process works

  1. Feasibility request is received by Cancer Trials Ireland.
  2. Country-level review is undertaken with the relevant DSSG Chair or Chairs to determine clinical and scientific interest and fit with the Cancer Trials Ireland portfolio.
  3. Pre-feasibility and site interest checks are carried out as required.
  4. Feasibility questionnaires (with CDAs if required) are distributed to sites, with follow-up, tracking and collation by Cancer Trials Ireland.
  5. Site recommendations are made based on feasibility findings together with DSSG Chairs. Where the trial opens to accrual in Ireland, it is adopted into the Cancer Trials Ireland portfolio,  listed on the Cancer Trials Ireland website, and included for discussion as part of the portfolio at regular DSSG meetings.
