TOURIST Platform Trial – Thoracic Umbrella Radiotherapy Study in stage IV NSCLC

About this trial

The Tourist Study is a Platform Study which means a series of randomised controlled trials can be run across a range of situations where radiotherapy would be used in the treatment of stage IV NSCLC.
For both Quartz and Prince parts of the TOURIST study radiotherapy treatment (called fractions) will be administered (with a single fraction delivered per day). Radiotherapy to the chest area is widely used in the treatment of lung cancer. It’s use in different stages of Non-small cell Lung Cancer has evolved based on local experience, as doctors attempt to ease symtoms, maintain/improve quality of life and prolong survival, while minimising side effects.
PRINCE Study: Patients who are eligible to participate in the study will allocated by chance (one in two chances)to one of two study arms.
Radiotherapy Arm: Patients on this arm would receive a systemic therapy (Chemotherapy, immunotherapy or combination therapy) chosen by their Oncologist. This treatment is Considered Standard of Care, so would be similar to the treatment you would recieve if you were not on a Clinical Trial. Patients will then recieve Radiotherapy for 5 treatments per week for a max of 3 weeks. Patients would then be followed up to 21 months after starting the study.
Control Arm: Patients would recive a systemic therapy (Chemotherapy, immunotherapy or combination therapy) chosed by your Oncologist.Patients would then be followed up to 21 months after starting the study.
QUARTZ Study: Patients who are eligible to participate in the study will allocated by chance (one in two chances)to one of two study arms.
Control Arm: Patients on this Arm will recieve supportive or pallative care based on their symptoms after completing systemic therapy as per Standard of Care (this systemic therapy would not be part of Study Treatment). Patients would then be followed up to 6 months after starting the study.

The first step we recommend is to talk to your doctor or the cancer trials team at your hospital. You can find contact details for cancer trials research units in Ireland here.

It’s also a good idea to print this page and bring it with you to your appointment. It can help guide the conversation and remind you of what to ask. You may also want to talk to your family or friends about your options, as they can offer support as you make decisions.
