Cancer Trials Ireland is pleased to report a strong initial response to the PRO-ACT Survey, an important, patient-led initiative exploring the impact of prostate cancer treatment on sexual health, relationships, and overall well-being.
The PRO-ACT (Patient-led Research On sexual experience After Cancer Treatment) Survey is open to both patients and partners across Ireland and Northern Ireland. The goal: to better understand the often-overlooked challenges that follow treatment for prostate cancer and use that understanding to improve care.
While early participation has been encouraging, researchers are keen to hear from even more people. By sharing your experience, you can help shape a future where support services are better informed, more holistic, and more responsive to real-life needs.
Why Your Voice Matters
Prostate cancer doesn’t just affect physical health; it can profoundly impact a person’s mental well-being, intimacy, and sense of self. These issues are not always openly discussed, and patients and partners may feel isolated or under-supported.
The PRO-ACT Survey is designed to close this gap. By identifying what’s working and what’s missing, the findings will inform better communication, more appropriate resources, and ultimately, a more compassionate standard of care.

❤️ Partner Survey: Take the survey
Designed by Patients, Backed by Experts
What makes PRO-ACT unique is its origin: the survey was co-designed by individuals with lived experience of prostate cancer, both a patient and a partner, working alongside a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals.
Led by Mr Martin Sweeney (Patient Consultant) and Dr Paul Kelly (Radiation Oncologist), the survey is supported by Cancer Trials Ireland and guided by experts in urology, oncology, psychology, and nursing.
Together, we can ensure that every voice counts in shaping better prostate cancer care.
